Ramadan is almost gone but before we despair of the golden time that left us, there is still a wonderful opportunity left for us to avail.
Yes, Laylatul Qadr – the night better than a thousand months. Since we are an ummah with a relatively shorter lifespan, Allah has gifted us with an opportunity to gather almost as much rewards as those in the past who lived worshipping for hundreds and even thousands of years.
But how do we get our children excited for this opportunity?
It’s not that hard. Lets whip up the perfect combination!
Just Sprinkle in a bit of Competition
“Ramadan has come to you. It is a month of blessing, in which Allah covers you with blessing; for He sends down mercy, decreases sins and answers prayers. In it, Allah looks at your competition (in good deeds) and boasts about you to His angels. So show Allah goodness from yourselves, for the unfortunate one is he who is deprived in it (this month) of the mercy of Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted.”
Narrated by Tabarani
Ignite that spirit and channel it for prayers and connection with their Creator. It will be a source of many great memories, insha’Allah.

A Dash of Mystery and Intrigue
Isn’t your child’s curiosity what brings that shine in their eyes and that eager smile on their lips? Bring it on. Make them curious and create that mysterious sensation because that’s what Laylatul Qadr is all about.

Which night could it be?
Which Laylatul Qadr sign did you notice or feel?
Train their impatience into consistency with secrecy of this wonderful night. They don’t just get pumped for one odd night and then play in the others? Why it might be this night that’s Laylatul Qadr so up we get and hit the prayer mat, insha’Allah.
A Cup full of Love
How do we inspire and motivate children to pause or leave the allure of the worldly pleasures, the thrill of their games and wonder of their play for some spiritual connection?
It’s a mighty hard task but there is only a single word answer.
Love
When Love of Allah and his Prophet Muhammad (saw) is firm in their hearts, it becomes much easier to motivate the actions which are usually hindered by laziness and procrastination.

Use these nights to remind your children of Al Wuddud’s love for us that He provides us with chances after chances to turn to Him so He could shower us with His Favor and Jannah insha’Allah.
Remind them of our Prophet Muhammad (saw) crying for us in sujjod, his beautiful face covered with mud and water, crying for us and our forgiveness because he also loved us and was eager to meet us who believed him without seeing him.
Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri narrates, Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to practice I`tikaf (in the mosque) in the middle third of Ramadan and after passing the twenty nights he used to go back to his house on the 21st, and the people who were in I`tikaf with him also used to go back to their houses. Once in Ramadan, in which he practiced I`tikaf, he established the night prayers at the night in which he used to return home, and then he addressed the people and ordered them whatever Allah wished him to order and said, “I used to practice I`tikaf for these ten days (i.e. the middle third but now I intend to stay in I`tikaf for the last ten days (of the month); so whoever was in I`tikaf with me should stay at his place of seclusion. I have verily been shown (the date of) this Night (of Qadr) but I have forgotten it. So search for it in the odd nights of the last ten days (of this month). I also saw myself (in the dream) prostrating in mud and water.” On the night of the 21st, the sky was covered with clouds and it rained, and the rainwater started leaking through the roof of the mosque at the praying place of the Prophet (ﷺ) . I saw with my own eyes the Prophet at the completion of the morning prayer leaving with his face covered with mud and water.
